Like You Never Had Wings [standalone]
Title: Like You Never Had Wings
Rating: … PG-13?
Warnings: Drugs, I suppose?
Characters: Sherlock/Moriarty
Word Count: 662
Summary: This is what you need. And I'm here to deliver. I'm here to fix it, to fix you for the moment, because that's what I do. That's what you've asked me to do because dear no, John Watson can't fix this for you. You won't let him.
Notes: Inspired by this awesome piece of fanart by inklou. I wrote this before I read the artist's intent behind it, so my interpretation of this situation is probably a bit different then intended ^^; Also the title is from Deftone's 'Change (In a House of Flies)'. It's such a Moriarty song, go listen to it now.

I see your eyes in colors that no one's ever seen before. I've seen them in the brightness of revelation, the fireworks of thrill, of excitement in others' misery because others' misery tells a story in hieroglyphics of clues, of leads, of things people can't see even when they're staring right at them. I've seen them in the dullness of confusion, when you become another one of those people. In the darkness of anger that you've become another one of those people, even for a moment, shame on you.

John Watson's seen your eyes in colors before, too, that no one's ever seen before. But not even he has seen them like this.

You won't let him, will you?

Now, I see your eyes in the brightness of unearthly things. In the sparks of dreaming with your eyes open, of losing yourself in things that can't possibly be real but you're seeing them, you're seeing them through eyes you've so desperately relied on. They can't possibly be lying to you, but this isn't possible, so they glaze over and decide that you don't care if this is possible or not; this is what you need.

And I'm here to deliver. I'm here to fix it, to fix you for the moment, because that's what I do. That's what you've asked me to do because dear no, John Watson can't fix this for you. You won't let him.

Your skin caves beneath the needle without resistance, like it's hungry. I'm poisoning your veins, showing you what death looks like without letting you touch Him, and your eyes flash with life, your lips curl in a lazy grin and you're escaping, I can see it, I can see you leaving life to live. Your last dose is delivered and your body loses stability, sways like it can't remember which way it's supposed to be. I bite the syringe between my teeth and reach up to slip my fingers through your hair, keep you close.

You're getting away from me but I'll hold your body here, make sure nothing happens to it.

You're trembling. Breathing heavier. Laughing in breathless, broken sounds. You're inside out.

I spit the needle onto the floor and tell you, This is how I could do it. This is how I could kill you. And oh, there are so many things to be creative with, I could kill you in your escape. I could make those fireworks explode behind your eyes and fall upon you in hot, burning, merciless flares that would make your skin black and brittle, make it flake off and you'd feel every blessed moment of it.

You laugh louder, your forehead tilting against my shoulder. I touch your cheek, where your skin is cut and your blood's breathing red.

I tell you again, This is how I could do it. This is how I could kill you. I could poison you slowly, smother you, hold you close and suffocate you inside your own body and watch as your pupils contracted, as you gasped for breath, as you realized what I had done.

You cross your arms over your chest, your knuckles white as you grip your biceps. You tell me I wouldn't and laugh again, like you're far away.

And then I tell you, This is how I could do it. This is how I could fix you permanently.

What do you see when everything is right?

Using my thumb and forefinger, I coax your head away from my shoulder and hold your chin. What do you see in your lucid dreams, in the colors of ecstasy? There's blood pooling in the corner of your lips and you smile wider, smile with your teeth and laugh louder than before.

What do you see when you betray the angels for just a moment, when you let me pull of your wings, when you laugh like no one's heard you before?

I laugh, too.
